My research focuses on the neurocognitive mechanisms of altered social cognition in psychiatric (alcohol dependence, depression) and neurological (stroke, traumatic brain injury) ) disorders. In this context, I am interested in both basic (emotion recognition) and more complex (empathy, social problem solving) sociocognitive functions. One question that I would like to address more strongly in my future research is whether specific profiles of impaired and intact aspects of social cognition may differentiate between different neurological patient groups. Furthermore, I aim to develop novel, also internet-based, approaches for diagnosis and treatment of sociocognitive impairment following acquired brain injury.
Together with Prof. Dr. Boris Suchan, I lead the Neuropsychologisches Therapie Centrum and am involved in the further training of psychological psychotherapists to become clinical neuropsychologists. At the Neuropsychologisches Therapie Centrum, we offer diagnostics and therapy for people who have cognitive and affective impairments as a result of acquired brain damage.
