Research Interests

The working group of Prof. Dr. Georg Juckel is investigating sensory as well as cognitive functions since many years. Studies are especially focused on basal sensory processes within the auditory cortex in relationship to neurochemical modulation, e.g. the serotonergic system. On the other hand, the working group is interested in the neurobiological mechanisms of social cognition in healthy subjects and in patients with various psychiatric disorders. There is ongoing research due to the interaction of sensory and social cognitive processes, especially in regard to the serotonergic neurotransmission. These two research aspects are also analyzed by using structural and functional 1.5/3 T magnetic resonance imaging including spectroscopy. Furthermore, there are some previous experience of neurobiological investigations of clinical and pre-clinical populations concerning memory and memory loss.
